Melissa Crowley joined Brown Wright Stein Lawyers in September 2016 and practices in commercial litigation.
Melissa has experience working with both corporate and individual clients in a variety of areas including shareholder disputes, insolvency, Corporations Act disputes including breaches of directors’ duties and debt recovery. She regularly advises national corporates, smaller owner-managed business and high net worth individuals in both commencing proceedings and defending proceedings throughout State and Federal jurisdictions. In addition, Melissa has experience in navigating disputes to negotiated settlements.
Melissa has over 11 years experience in legal roles which has provided her with an in depth knowledge of the legal system, commencing her career as a legal secretary at a large global reputable law firm to a paralegal where she worked across many areas of law and now as an Associate in the commercial litigation team at Brown Wright Stein.
Melissa’s recent experience includes:
Acting for the majority shareholder in a large and complex Supreme Court proceeding
Commencing proceedings in the Supreme Court against a majority shareholder for oppressive conduct as well as breaches of directors’ duties and fiduciary duties
Acting for plaintiffs and defendants in respect of disputes involving breaches of contract
Acted for liquidators which saw her prosecute matters on behalf of liquidators as well as defending proceedings against companies in liquidation
Advising and acting for creditors in wind-up applications in the Federal Court and Supreme Court
Advised and acted for a leading Australian security company and National sports company concerning debt recovery action
In Melissa’s spare time she plays netball and enjoys travelling and catching up with friends.
