David is a Law Society accredited specialist in taxation law.  David was the chairman of the taxation law specialisation committee when taxation law accreditation commenced in Victoria in 1999.  He joined Brown Wright Stein as Special Counsel in August 2011.  He has been a tax lawyer for 25 years.

 

David advises businesses, individual and entrepreneurs on the following areas of law:

  • State taxes, including Superannuation

  • Business & company law

  • Estate planning

David ran his own tax law firm for ten years.  He also worked with a number of other law firms including firms with a principal focus on self-managed superannuation.      
 

He is the author of numerous articles on tax, trusts and superannuation issues encountered in practice that have appeared in publications such as the Australian Tax Review (Law Book Co.), Australian Accountant (CPA Australia), Taxation in Australia (Red Edition) and SMSF Magazine (Morningstar).  He is an accomplished and experienced presenter to accountant groups and businesses. 

 

David has consulted to CPA Australia providing income tax advice to CPA Australian members through CPA member services. He also has experience in the High Net Worth Individuals section of the Australian Taxation Office, preparing positions relating to, and negotiating disputes with, individuals with group wealth of between $35m and $250m.

 

David also prepares and reviews complex documentation including commercial and financial agreements, trust deeds and self-managed superannuation documentation systems. 

 

He has an interest in technology, and in addition to document automation system design, he has applied this to the development of databases for tracking facts, evidence, and issues in disputes and the enhancement of interactive law firm websites.  He has been a regular presenter at the Sinch Legal Workstation Conferences on using technology better in law firms and he has been involved in the adoption of software by law firms through his career.
